The Giver Community Flyer Assignment
In this creative assignment, students will design a flyer/brochure as an advertisement for Jonas’ community in The Giver. They will use persuasive writing skills to entice the reader to want to join the community and highlight the aspects that people seeking a utopian society would be drawn to. Digging deeper into the novel, this assignment gives students the chance to explore the aspects of Sameness, and deepen their understanding of the characters and setting.

The Giver Writing Assignment: Interpret the Ending
Students first unpack a quotation from Lois Lowry, the author, about the ending. They are next invited to study the last pages with a partner or group, noticing phrases that might hold clues.
