Socratic Seminar: Who Should Be on American Currency?
The images we see around us daily have a subtle yet profound effect. In this Socratic seminar, students consider American currency and consider: should the faces on the bills be changed or stay the same? The learn who is featured on currency now and think on who could be. This activity can be used during an American History course as students learn about figures like Andrew Jackson and Harriet Tubman, or can be used as a general debate in any Social Studies or English-Language Arts classroom.

Aristotle provided thoughts on many topics, from science to public speaking. This resource focuses on Aristotle and his Rhetoric through research. Students will discover Aristotle's life and work and explore the tenants of the Rhetoric. They will identify and evaluate the different types of rhetoric and ethos, logos, and pathos. Students can use this resource as a reference page as they plan any persuasive writing or speaking assignments or activities.

Pod cast Reviews- Homework Activity
Similarly to how a writer uses voice to shape meaning, a podcast must consider how to engage an audience through audio techniques. This homework or in class activity asks students to analyze pod casts with a focus on voice, tone, point of view, and audience. It offers a new way to consider oral presentation skills and is also an excellent lead in to a pod cast project on choice book reading (also on sale.) This webquest is a fun introduction to American English dialects and pronunciation. It could be used across several classes, though I use it with my Speech 101 class to introduce pronunciation exercises. The Webquest uses multiple links from the www.pbs.org "Sea to Shining Sea" site.
The students will read high interest nonfiction articles and respond to reflection questions.
