The Decimal Song
A few years ago, I had a conversation with students that led me to realize that many of them lack a basic understanding of the concept of a decimal (ie. it works like a fraction- it is less than one, or part of a whole).
That led to me working this song into my math program. It is simple and catchy and hammers the point home, so that they won't (can't!) forget it. I used it as an introduction into decimals because it pumps up a unit that can otherwise get a bit dry.

I searched high and low for a succinct song to help my 6th and 7th graders remember how to convert between fractions, decimals, and percents. Couldn't find one, so I made my own. My students put the lyrics in their interactive notebooks, so this has not only the lyrics but also some examples. I quote the song as I model different conversions, and even in 8th grade my students remember and love the song. Very catchy and easy to understand!
