My students love a good mystery and really love secret codes. They get so excited to learn code songs and any song for that matter where the words have a double meaning. I use "Follow the Drinking Gourd" and an introduction to African American music and then our unit progresses to spirituals and freedom songs. My students love the stories behind the songs and enjoy sharing what they have learned about slavery in their social studies lessons. I always like to add to their background knowledge

He channels his anger into this song, wishing he could 'purge' the world of such evil. You get:1) a 10-slide presentation on The Game's upbringing, as well as the motivation behind the song2) The lyrics,

One of my simpler sing-alongs but still one that my students love. I decided to keep the images and animation simple because as I explained to my students: Images aren't needed, her words and voice are enough. I have been slow to introduce jazz to my students mostly because they love to sing and some jazz songs are not always elementary school appropriate.
