Why did people go on The Crusades in the Middle Ages? INTERACTIVE POWERPOINT

If you're looking for a fun and interactive way for your students to learn why some people went on the Crusades from Europe, this interactive PowerPoint and question sheet. It's based on the idea of 'choose your own adventure' games. They 'time travel' back to Medieval England and find out the reasons why people went on the crusades to Jerusalem. Students have to navigate their way through the presentation making decisions on who they 'speak' to and what they read in order to answer the questi

If you teach about the Road to Revolution in your class, this is a great way to get your students involved and engaged when you reach the Tea Act of 1773 and the Boston Tea Party 1773.Having students reenact history is an excellent way for them to "experience" what events were like. This is a great example. This play was written using eyewitness accounts and other excellent sources including information from the Boston Tea Party museum. If ever in Boston it is a must do! Here is a skit I use when we are learning about the Middle Colonies in my classroom. It is a great way to enhance any lesson about the Middle Colonies either to introduce some of the characteristics of this region or reinforce what has been taught. All of my skits are written to engage students and get them thinking. Most contain a little bit of humor, as well. This one does. This activity is a puzzle based, escape room style challenge activity where students receive clues, answer questions from released STAAR tests, get hints, and try to beat the clock to escape an alien ship. I used a paired text from the 2017 5th grade released reading STAAR, it would be easy to simply delete the questions and have them complete questions from another grade level or even another subject. They basically get a puzzle, then must answer 3 STAAR questions before you give them a hint

The following brainteasers are not exactly like questions you see on standardized tests. However, there are a lot of similarities. Now that tests are more rigorous and require a higher level thought process, students need to take time thinking through questions and reading more carefully. Students are often impulsive and do not read carefully. They miss either what the question is asking or they miss tiny, yet important details. Also, they are easily thrown off by the distracter answer. These c

If your classroom is like mine, you believe learning is best by doing. Using plays, simulations and reenactments allows students to experience their learning targets/objectives. Plus, it is fun! I use this play during an Industrial Revolution unit in my economics class. I use it to supplement what we are learning at that time. It takes about 10-15 minutes for the whole activity, including the discussion. It is a great way to learn about some of the revolutionary changes occurring at that time.
