Greek Mythology Project | Creative god and goddess Bumper Sticker Activity

Students create "bumper stickers" using various literary devices to make their chosen god or goddess memorable. When I do this project, I simply cut cardstock in half and give it to students to decorate and write on. Example include: "Got Wheat?" (for Demeter), "Mighty Aphrodite!", "Are you Ridin' the waves with Poseidon?"This document includes project details, an easily modified grading rubric, and a practice section focusing on the use of literary devices in real world bumper stickers.CLICK

Confusing Imperatives and an Idiom with Amelia Posters

When giving directions, we often use imperatives. The problem with some imperatives is that English language learners do not immediately understand them. It is the misunderstanding of imperatives, idioms, and other vocabulary that often lends humor to the Amelia Bedelia books. My English language learners, particularly my older students, enjoy reading these books. They are short and easy to read, and the pictures help them understand unfamiliar vocabulary. My ELLs also often identify with Amelia
