THE IRONY OF SHEL SILVERSTEINStudents are introduced to the concept of irony.Verbal and dramatic irony are defined, along with common misconceptions of irony, but the focus of the lesson is on situational irony. Students recognize concrete representations of irony, read and interpret poetry samples written by Shel Silverstein that contain situational irony, and write original poems to demonstrate comprehension and application of the skill.
