This is a great sorting activity for the community helpers theme. Each page contains pictures of 2 community helpers and 4 or 5 objects that are associated with the helpers. The students will move the objects to their respective community helper.

Places in the community ... where questions for children
This lesson is part of my community helpers unit. On each page there is a question such as where do you go to pray? a visual cue like a woman praying, and 3 choices of locations to choose from. When the child selects the correct answer it says the models the words for the location.

Transportation and Vehicles in the community
This is an interactive lesson that I use once I have covered basic community helpers and what they use. In this activity is asks a question like "what do firemen drive to a fire?" It provides a visual cue like a picture of a fireman, and then choices in a field of 3. When the child selects the correct choice it models that language like "a firetruck".

All about community helpers including doctors and firefighters
This is an introductory lesson to community helpers. There is a song about helpers and pictures of 11 different helpers and a brief description of what they do. Then the last section is a question format such as "who helps put out fires" and your children should select the correct picture (with a reinforcing sound for choosing correctly).

Categories and Basic Negation Activity
My kiddos always have a hard time with sorting by category and finding items that are similar but not the same, so I created tons of pages for practice. This chart has categories from colors, food, transportation, and clothing. On each page there are things that belong with the named category and things that don't and a direction such as "circle all the things that are red" or "put an X on the things that are not hats"

Different locations or parts of the community language circle
This is one of my language activities for preschoolers as an introduction to the different parts of the community like churches, grocery stores, and libraries. It has 2 related songs and several locations with pictures of what these places look like. There are not any opportunities for children to come up and actually interact with the board in this lesson, but I've done some great sorting activities with other materials once I use this to introduce the lesson.

All about me flipchart
This is a great chart for classroom introductions. It starts with the sesame street song "What I am" and then you go through the chart as a class. You have to click on the video to start the song. Everywhere that you see a portrait box you add the child's face. I also usually place a mirror somewhere close by when you are asking them about what they look like. Its a great interactive language lesson.

Daily Five Rotation Chart on Smart Notebook (Edit as needed)
This is a daily five rotation chart I use daily to set up my rotations. This way, I can group kids in leveled groups for both work work and the teacher group. I use the "dots" if a child is going out of the room during a rotation. I use the following letters for each group:
WW: Word Work
WR: Work on Writing
T: Teacher
LR: Listen to Reading
R: Read to Self
RS: Read to Someone

Daily 5 Rotation Chart Editable
I modify this chart daily when I set up my rotations. The chart includes: WW:Word Work, WR: Work on Writing, RS: Read to Someone, R: Read to Self, T: Teacher, LR: Listen to Reading and bubbles in case a child is out during that rotation.
By using this chart, children can be grouped together by levels in various subject areas.
