Change Sings

I love Amanda Gorman's poetry and couldn't wait to get this book. I've written a little song to go with it and added some Orff instruments. I suggest you find some un-pitched percussion to add to it, maybe egg shakers, maracas, claves or giro, or small hand drums on the beat. It would also be great with ukuleles - only needed the chords F and C. I usually teach the song first, read the book with the song (I usually sing as I turn each page), then teach the instrument parts and put them toge

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Sleigh! by Mo Willem

Here's a fun book and song for your kids! I purposely made the instrumentation sound a bit like Jingle Bells. There is only one measure where they change, and they will need to practice that, but it shouldn't be too difficult. Remember to add a Hey! at the end on beat four!

Squeak, Rumble, Whomp, Whomp, Whomp by Wynton Marsalis

This is a fun one! I did not add percussion instruments because each of us has different instruments in our classroom. I would add something that "squeaks" when we sing "Squeak" and something that "rumbles" when we sing "Rumble" and some kind of drum for Whomp, Whomp, Whomp. I would use a Tick Tock for that "Tick, Tock" and maybe a clave or woodblock for "Clack" and a bass drum for "Boom Boom". You can obviously add other instruments as well. Have fun with it.

The Snow Dancer by Addie Boswell, published by Two Lions, New York.A fun book for the winter. I've added instruments, and thought I'd add a syncopated rhythm. The bottom line is bass xylophone, of course, then the next up is the alto xylophone. I'd add a finger cymbal on the second beat after the half note (on Snow Day!). You could add other instruments, like maracas, to imitate the crunching in the snow, and keep a steady beat. I usually teach the song first, then teach the instruments. T
