This lesson is a fun way to help your students explore the mass, volume, and density of everyday objects. It teaches them all about measuring matter and then allows them to practice what they have learned through hands-on labs and word problem worksheets. Engineering: Weights and Measures Conversion Tables
A weights and measures conversion table is useful when converting and calculating engineering, construction and STEM problem solving projects and activities. It helps students learn how to locate information and convert that information into their calculations. The conversion table also allows teachers to increase the rigor in their activities and problem solving projects by supplying students access to the needed information to accurately calculate a complex problem.

Skittles Proportion Activity
Students are to be provided a bag of skittles. They are going to use proportions and ratios to determine if there are the same number/ratio of each color in all different sized bags.
I had students work in groups of 2 for this activity. Within the activity I broke it up into three different sections; a pre-lab, lab, and post-lab portion. Students make initial guesses/hypothesis, test out their theory, use proportions and ratios to analyze their results and graph data.

Measurement Lab I Weight Mass Length Capacity and Time
The measurement lab is a 24 question hands-on activity that includes all the components of measurement: using the tools, recognizing the terms, and converting measurements. It includes weight, mass, length, capacity, time, and temperature in both customary and metric units.
