Persuasive/Document Based Essay Editing Checklist
As part of the writing process, I give my students an editing checklist to help them make sure that they have checked for all major mistakes. This is the version I used for my ninth graders after they read Monster by Walter Dean Myers. We also used it in ninth grade for Of Mice and Men, Lupita Manana and Twelve Angry Men. This activity is for a creative writing class (or lesson) and involves investigating the students' control over how they live their lives. The activity asks the students to reflect on their responsibility in and dedication to English class and whether or not they are content with the "status quo". Quick grade - AP/IB Time saving Style analysis essay rubric
A pair of essay rubrics, one for mechanics to use as you read all those sheepish insights bleeting from fields of marginally coherent verbiage. The second is a quick checklist style scoring rubric that saves you time, and the trouble of writing commentary at the end of the essay. These have cut my grading time in half, and I no longer have a line of students asking that I justify their scores. The rubrics are in MS Word 97-2003 so that you can make changes if needed.
