Guided Essay format for Harriet Tubman's Greatest Achievements
This format works well with a DBQ (Document Based Questioning) on Harriet Tubman. I have used it with my 3rd graders and they created some amazing essays. If you are working on a DBQ you can easily change the wording to match your needs.

Students will dive into background information and primary sources from the Roanoke colonists and Roanoke leader, John White. Students will annotate texts, source documents, and write a RAFT Essay explaining what happened in the mystery of the colonists

Students Become Petrologist and Classify Rocks
Students will examine six rock samples. They will list characteristics of each rock. Such as, color, texture, size and hardness. Then, they will use the characteristics to classify the rocks. Later, they will compare and contrast two rocks and write about their findings. This activity reinforces reading, writing and science standards.
