Polar Express Smartboard "Race to the North Pole" Jeopardy lesson
This smartboard lesson is a (Polar Express Christmas Jeopardy-like) lesson that I made up for the smartboard. The questions are trivia questions from the book and movie. As students get the answer correct they go to a gameboard in which their train races another train to the North Pole. A Smartboard is not required. You can get a free download from Smartech.com to use. This activity would be a great review for anytime, but works especially well during the Christmas season. Made by Smartb

Character Card Template (novel study, play study, review)
This activity can be used to review characters for any novel, play, etc. You could use it for individual work (create a character booklet) or in groups for a faster review of characters. I most recently used it midway through teaching Hamlet (prior to the deaths) as a group activity. Each group was given one character name and completed as a poster to be displayed in the room. As the characters died, students labelled with cause of death! It's a great activity for any tragic story!

Theodore Taylor's The Cay involves a variety of conflicts involving the two main characters, Timothy and Phillip. In this SMARTboard activity, there are 8 conflicts that happen in the story. Parody Flipchart
This is a quick two slide Flipchart that I use to introduce parody. The first slide has a simple definition of a parody. The second slide has two links that lead to examples of parody. The first link is to an Adele "Hello" parody done by a teacher who really wants a snow day. The second link is to the SNL skit "Taco Town".
