We’re Alannah and Jessica, co-founders of The Thrive Jar — two Filipino cousins with 20+ years of combined experience in teaching and facilitation. We design lesson plans for the next generation of innovators and creators. Our curriculum fosters community, connection and empathy while meeting Common Core Standards.
The pandemic highlighted how the educational system overworked and underpaid teachers for their robust responsiveness in schools and classrooms. We created The Thrive Jar to relieve teachers from the burden of admin and lesson planning so they can focus on what they do best: teach and deeply connect with their students.

Eksperyensya ang pinaka maayong maestra. Or “Experience is the best teacher,” when translated from Visayan, our mother dialect. It’s a Filipino proverb that captures The Thrive Jar’s approach to teaching: through curiosity and experimentation. We don’t believe in experts. Instead, we embrace learning as an iterative process and encourage learners to think critically and respond boldly.
As two people with learning disabilities, we understand the need for diversity in teaching methods. We challenge traditional teaching models and approaches by offering resources that address the needs of all types of learners, especially those who struggle in traditional classroom settings.
When we think of a successful student journey, we think beyond grades and testing scores — we focus on the practical soft skills that help them navigate life’s biggest challenges.
Like learning, lesson planning is a collaborative, iterative process. We think deeply about how teachers and students experience our lessons and offer alternative approaches to learning. We leverage our collective experience to fill in resource gaps and gain insights from our engaged teaching community.
