TEACHING EXPERIENCE

We are a married couple teaching middle school science in Hawaii. The "Mr" started teaching Earth and Space Science in 2005, and the "Mrs" started teaching Life Science in 2006.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Our two main goals as science teachers is for our students to see that science can be fun, and that they themselves can be scientists every day of their lives. We both do a mixture of inquiry, projects, activities, and traditional teaching...but always keeping our two goals in mind when teaching our students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

The "Mr" was awarded the Hawaii Academy of Science's Teacher of the Year award in 2013. In addition, he also won a Teacher Recognition Award at the 2010 Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair. Our students traditionally do very well at our island's district science fair. We have sent an average of 3-4 projects to the Hawaii State Science Fair every year since 2007 (only 5 projects can qualify at the Middle School level).

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

The "Mr": Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts from Kaua`i Community College; Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with an Emphasis in General Science from University of Hawaii at Manoa The "Mrs": Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with an Emphasis in Physical Science from University of Hawaii at Manoa
