TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught in Texas for twenty-three years and have experience in Kinder-5th grade. There have been many memorable learning experiences in each of these grades, but my true love is with third-5th graders!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I would call myself a teacher who is "structured with choices." I feel students do well in a structured environment with predictable routines for each day. Within those structures, they are able to make choices and be independent! I like to get students up and moving as much as possible, sharing their thinking and learning with others. I also believe that students are more engaged in work when it is aesthetically pleasing. Clip art on a well-designed paper appeals to the senses and can spark engagement- even for something like a math practice page! :) I try to create resources that teachers and students will enjoy using.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been honored with a Teacher of the Month award and have received many sweet letters (my favorite) from parents and students! One of my shining moments (non-teaching related) was completing the 220-mile John Muir Trail with my husband in 2015. It was extremely challenging, both physically and mentally, but something we will both never forget. The picture shown is from the last day of our hike on the summit of Mount Whitney at 14,505 feet.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I am a teacher in Texas and am certified EC (Early Childhood) through 8th grade. I also have an ESL certification.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

As you may have guessed from my store name, I love to knit! It is a great way to relax after a day of teaching. I've taught several of my students to knit as well. Knitting uses both sides of the brain at once and helps develop basic math skills!
