Description

Santa has a magical sleigh with a team of reindeer, but what about Mrs. Claus?

This differentiated science and writing project is a fun way to assess understanding of the different forms of energy. Students will design a vehicle for Santa to give to Mrs. Claus for Christmas.

This resource includes:

  • Lesson plans
  • Small group activity to review forms of energy
  • Project Assignment to engage students
  • Two versions of the planning pages
  • Four versions of the final project pages
  • Grading rubrics
  • Example of a completed project

I have included a suggested lesson plan sequence for two days. Each student begins with a planning page. Completing the planning page will help students focus on the specific features of Mrs. Claus’s new vehicle and will allow you to assess their understanding before beginning the final project.

"A Gift for Mrs. Claus" was created to integrate science, art, and writing, and I'm thrilled with the feedback from educators who have used the project with their students:

"This was such an amazing project to do with my students the week before Christmas! We had a writing celebration where students got to show the writing to their parents, and the parents loved the project, too!" - Catherine H.

"We learned about types of energy and did this project before Christmas! They LOVED it! They had a blast!!" - Jason B.

You can complete this project in two class periods or stretch it out over a week! I have included a suggested lesson plan sequence for two days. Each student begins with a planning page. Completing the planning page will help students focus on the specific features of Mrs. Claus’s new vehicle and will allow you to assess their understanding before beginning the final project.

Please check the preview to see everything that is included in the project!

Thank you!
