As a high school educator with over 20 years of experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the classroom. My journey in education began with a Secondary Education Degree from Xavier University in New Orleans. Throughout my career, I have taught in various settings, from middle to high school, and even in alternative G.E.D. programs, which has equipped me with a diverse range of teaching experiences. My teaching philosophy is firmly rooted in student-centered and engaging learning. I believe that education should empower students to become critical thinkers and active participants in their own learning. I work diligently to create a classroom environment where students take the lead in their education. I employ a range of teaching strategies, including student grouping, the use of primary and secondary sources, and historical videos like movies and clips to make history come alive. I am dedicated to fostering collaborative learning, where students can exchange ideas and gain a deeper understanding of the past. Furthermore, I have experience as a teacher evaluator, which has given me a unique perspective on the field of education. In my classroom, I use both traditional assessment methods like tests, quizzes, and exams, as well as innovative approaches such as the C.E.R. (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) writing method, presentations, and class discussions to evaluate student progress and encourage critical thinking. My commitment to education and my deep passion for history drive me to provide students with the tools and knowledge they need to become informed, engaged, and thoughtful citizens.
