I have been a public school teacher for 13 years. Over my career so far, I have taught every level of math ranging from pre-algebra to honors geometry, 6th and 7th grade reading, and every level of science ranging from 6th grade science to honors physical science. I have also had a great deal of experience working with gifted students as well as students with special needs.
I set my classroom up using a "flipped" learning model, this allows class time to be used more efficiently and facilitates a greater mastery of content standards for my students. My classroom is engaging, collaborative, and hands-on every day, all day. I use project based learning and anchoring phenomena to engage my students in inquiry, engineering, and real world problem solving. I also am a firm believer in the benefits of immersing learners in interdisciplinary units and STEM, students benefit from connecting disciplinary core ideas to cross-cutting concepts. I continually seek to grow and challenge myself as a teacher and learner, just as I challenge my students.
