What educators are saying

Thank you for creating this awesome resource! It was a great way to model to the students (using candy, which always gets their attention!) what occurs during mitosis/meiosis.
This helped my students understand the differences between mitosis and meiosis. I used smarties that we broke in half as jelly beans weren't available when we did this.

Description

Help students develop their critical thinking skills through the practice of modeling emphasised by NGSS. Students will use jelly beans to develop, explain, and evaluate the cellular processes of Mitosis and Meiosis. This lab can be easily modified to fit any number of chromosomes and creates a great framework for students as they further investigate both types of cell division. Also, this activity could serve as a great formative assessment tool or student review at the end of a unit. An answer key with detailed pictures is included in your download.
