TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I design and create educational materials, and provide editing, proofreading, and consulting services for other educators. Have an idea for a lesson/project you want to do with your students? I can create the written/graphic materials you need to make it happen. Already have your written materials but need them fine-tuned or proofread? Or have a goal in mind, but not sure of the best way to guide your students there? I can help. No matter what stage of development you are at, I can move your project along to get you where you need to be. I get excited about creative possibilities and am very much client-satisfaction motivated. I prefer to work on a flat-rate basis, as I will put in as much time and effort as needed to get the job done right. Once we agree on price, timeline, and completion criteria, you don't need to worry about your project going over budget. Whether we do it in stages or plan the whole project all at once - if there's a will, there's a way and together, we will find it!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to guide students to discover answers for themselves, but am not averse to giving direct instruction when necessary. If a student is struggling with the material, I delve deeper in order to discover and address the root cause of the difficulty. I try to address different learning styles and modalities by using a hands-on, multi-sensory approach with multiple activities to cement and reinforce learning.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

NSERC undergraduate research award (1999, 2000) at the University of Waterloo

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended the University of Waterloo where I completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Geochemistry. I then obtained a Bachelor of Education (with teaching qualifications in the primary and junior grades) from Queen's University. I also have additional qualifications in special education and teaching French as a Second Language.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am an Ontario Certified Teacher (grades K - 6), but also tutor high school students in math and science. I have been in many different classrooms as a substitute teacher, but prefer teaching small groups or individual students. I have designed and taught science courses and drama courses for homeschooled students, as well as for the Association for Bright Children. I am currently in the process of developing a French Immersion curriculum for homeschoolers.
