I have been working in education for over fifteen years! My Projects: I am currently the co-founder of a teacher support platform. (www.fetchy.com) My Work in Public Schools: Some of my educational experience includes acting as a classroom teacher (1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades) and working in school leadership. Leadership: I have also spent time on the Provo School District’s Literacy Committee. Some of my favorite positions include working as a grade-level team leader and as a District Grade-Level Coordinator. Likewise, I have enjoyed acting as a mentor teacher and District-University Facilitator, working with interns and student teachers from Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University. Professional Development: I enjoy working with teachers as a professional development coach. I have have worked on various multi-session training workships centered around ELA, Social Studies, and New Teacher Needs. I also host sessions on Bringing the Power of AI Into Your Close Reading Workflow, Doing Your Teacher Thing Your Way: Sustainable Literacy Solutions for Everyday Educators, Creating a Society of Literary Scholars, and Deconstructed Close Reading.
I believe that the best teaching is always the simplest form of teaching. As a result, I use a simplistic and authentic approach. I encourage students to use every minute wisely and believe in fostering each student’s natural curiosity. “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” Emerson I believe educators deserve the best. We do a difficult job and deserve solid support and good resources.
In 2016, I became a coordinating committee member of the Brigham Young University Civic Education Initiative. I have been awarded the Provo Way Award and Daily Herald Educator of the Week. I received the Golden Apple Award in 2015, and the Crystal Apple Award in 2013, and acted as a CITES Associates member of the BYU-Public School Partnership in 2014 and 2019. I am a professional speaker with a focus on Engaged Reading.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I also have my Gifted and Talented, and ESL Endorsements. I am trained in DIBELS Next Assessments and in LETRS.
I have three daughters whom I adore. My eldest little woman is attending University. My middle little woman is in 10th grade, and my baby is in 5th grade.
