TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I received my Secondary Education / History degree from Towson University where I completed my student teaching under the Maryland Common Core State Standard requirements. After graduation I was accepted to Teach for America and placed in Colorado where I work with undeserved communities to better the learning environment for all students. Colorado is also compliant with the Common Core State Standard regulations.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is very student centered and inquiry based. The majority of my lesson plans and worksheets are developed with the idea that all students record notes and produce responses differently, so their learning supports should reflect the same. I believe that all students learn best when connected to their learning environment and one that is open and inviting, so I tend to veer away form heavy texts and worksheets that are longer than 2 pages. This gives more time for cooperative learning and individual researching and diverts the attention of the students away from solely completing the questions explicitly asked by a teacher. I hope that my students will learn to ask their own questions and want to find answers.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

President: Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society Dean's List: Towson University

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I first attended the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA where I was a History major and played for the NCAA Varsity lacrosse team. Beginning in the Fall of my Junior year of college I made the decision to transfer to Towson University where I earned a place on the Dean's List for every semester that I attended this university. I graduated from Towson University in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree of History and a concentration in Secondary Education.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have invested a lot of my time, finances, and energy into traveling to experience other cultures and bring a global citizenship practice into my own life. I believe that this is a benefit to my teaching style and makes me a better teacher and role model for my students.
