TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught third grade for 9 years and reading intervention for 4 years. I have worked with a range of students. I have had inclusion for students with autism, gifted, emotionally disturbed, regular ed, and students with IEP's for learning disabilities and speech. I have training in PBIS and RTI.

MY TEACHING STYLE

They won't care how you know until they know how much you care. This is my teaching motto I teach by. I look at every student as if I were their mother. I teach, guide, console, and make educational decisions for them as if I was their mother.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been honored to be the wife of a great high school administrator, two wonderful children, and one crazy dog. Oh, not that kind of honors? Oops!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from Baldwin-Wallace in 2000 with my bachelors. In 2005 I attained my Masters in Education with a specialization in Reading from Baldwin-Wallace College. I have my reading endorsement for grades K-12.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I struggled in my early elementary school years. Due to chronic ear infections my speech was delayed and I began taking speech classes at the age of 3. My parents entered me into Kindergarten when I was only 4 and still struggled with speech. I continued to need speech therapy until fourth grade. I did not enjoy reading because I was always put in the low reading group because of my speech. It wasn't until eighth grade when I had a language arts teacher who changed my perspective of reading by giving me the book The Pigman by Paul Zindel followed with Matilda by Roald Dahl from my best friend. The combination of these books made reading less painful and I fell in love with reading. I use this experience in life to connect with my students. When I tell a classroom of reluctant readers that I too hated reading when I was their age and did until one teacher changed that, the kids listen with a different intent.
