I have been teaching for 19 years. I taught 5th grade my very first year of teaching. After the first year, I moved to 2nd grade where I stayed for 7 years. The remainder of my teaching career has been teaching first grade. I have a masters degree with a specialization in reading.
I like to be a facilitator in the classroom and promote independence for my first graders. First grade is such a crucial year where so much growth occurs. I feel that a critical part of a first grader's success is finding confidence in themselves. As a reader, this is so important. My classroom is a place where I promote cooperative learning as well as a caring and respectful atmosphere where students feel comfortable taking risks. I love to give kids choices so they may have ownership over their own learning.

I love teaching first grade! It is amazing to see the growth that the kids make during their first grade year. I am also a wife and mother of 3 awesome kids (ages 13, 10, and 5).
