TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught in resource classrooms (higher level special ed levels) for math and language arts since 1988 in 3 different schools (Utah and Idaho) for various grades K-6 and 10th, as well as tutoring and teaching sign language. I work with the Common Core Standards and felt the need to make most of the reading ones available in one document per story.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Small group of 8-16 students in my classes. I use a lot of basic skills, repeat and reteach, slower pace but using grade level material when I can. I try to put a group of students in the general ed classes at a back table with an aide as much as possible instead of keeping so many in my reading class.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Outstanding Volunteer in Girl Scouting for being the Service Unit Director over 2 cities at one time

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

AA degree in Education at College of Southern Idaho (Twin Falls) BS degree in Special Education and Education of the Hearing-Impaired at Idaho State University (Pocatello). I almost finished my Master's Degree in Special Ed.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am married with a blended family of 8 kids and 19 grand kids, grew up in southern California, and am happy to be living in Burley, Idaho. I've done volunteer work most of my life: Girl Scouts for about 22 years, Cub Scouts for 3 generations @ 3-5 years each, church callings, and was on the Board/over a boys' league for the Burley youth's softball association. I have hosted a community dance twice a month at the senior center for about 6 years. My first picture book called, "Stop Those Hiccups!" will be published Sept 30, 2016 (which I made teacher resources and worksheets for), and I am ready to submit a novel soon called, "Taylee's Job' about an 11-yr old girl trying to get out of a paper route. I enjoy writing poetry. My favorite times are with my family.
