I have taught ELA at the middle grade level, and ESL K-8, but much of my instructional experience has been with teaching English programs at the high school level, Grades 8 through 12. I've worked with a number of challenged and challenging populations, and developed material to engage their interest while meeting the current requirements of state, district, and school administration.
Students learn best when they are engaged at multiple levels with their own learning, when they are encouraged to take responsibility for that learning, and when they are respected and empowered to explore ideas and concepts. Project based and problem based learning are the most effective approaches to creating an effective learning environment in which students and teachers both thrive.
