Initially, the founder worked in a Title I tutoring program with at-risk youth, especially those with academic struggles. Since January 2020, she has focused primarily on semester-long ELA and summer reading programs for students in 6th to 8th grades.
Through teaching excellent fiction and nonfiction, students can build character traits including empathy, compassion, and tolerance. Therefore, most classes are heavily centered on guided discussions. Classes also build technical and creative writing skills, and knowledge of grammar, usage, and mechanics.
When teaching on Outschool, the founder received a 98% satisfaction rating with 184 reviews. She has also received praise from parents and colleagues.
The founder earned her B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a dual concentration in Early Childhood Education and Children and Families. She was in the top 5% of her graduating class. In 2020, she earned a graduate diploma in Applied Neuroscience, earning a 3.9 GPA.
ELA Institute provides a variety of English Language Arts classes, primarily to students ages 12-14, although some classes are available for students as young as 10 and as old as 16. In addition to the basics of language learning, there is a strong focus on critical thinking, analysis, and character development.
