I have nearly a decade of teaching experience, working with 7th through 10th graders. While earning my masters, I began my career working with the University of Oregon's Center for Teaching and Learning, as part of a research team studying language acquisition among ELL students. From there, I became a Reading Specialist, working with struggling readers in junior high. Eventually, I began teaching on-level, co-taught, and honors English. Within a single day, I worked with a wide spectrum of learners, from special needs, to gifted. This helped me to deepen my understanding of differentiation, and enticed me to design my own lessons. My objective has always been to offer sustainable learning and to appropriately challenge my students. For these reasons, I designed my curriculum from scratch, relying heavily on meta-cognitive and constructionist strategies.
My objective as a teacher, is to help students become more effective communicators and critical thinkers. I push them to look deeply into the content, while simultaneously seeing the bigger picture. Therefore, lessons are designed to help students think more dynamically about the content, but in an accessible and practical way. My objective has always been to offer sustainable learning and to appropriately challenge my students. For these reasons, I design my curriculum from scratch, relying heavily on meta-cognitive and constructionist strategies.
