I've been teaching high school English in northern California for fourteen years an hold both a BA and an MA in English. I have taught every level of high school English: A.P. Language and Composition, ESL/ELD, Resource English, freshman through senior English. I have also been an English department chair, have been designated a "Distinguished Teacher" by various administrations, and have been voted "Most Inspirational Teacher" and "Best Personality" by various student bodies.
I am a strong believer in the writing process. I believe that what we go through while writing makes us not only better writers, but makes us better thinkers--more empathetic, more logical, and more successful. I have had great success teaching writing to students across the academic spectrum, from resource classes to AP Language and Composition. I also believe in direct instruction, with humor. I believe students can "scent out" busy work quickly, so that the teacher must be able to justify every assignment they ask the student to complete. The assignments I post here will all directly approach a different element of writing or English language usage. All lessons are tested and have proved valuable and interesting to students.
