Personal Essay Writing Unit Smartboard
This Smartboard writing unit takes students through a step by step process to help them successfully write a personal essay. Here are the steps students are taken through:
1) Students begin by brainstorming themes and issues in their life 2) Students fill out a people/issues/moments chart
3) Students learn how to write a thesis
4) Students write an idea/claim/argument
5) Students learn how to "grow" ideas and "push their thinking"
6) Students organize their essay
7) Students look at examples

This is a 44 slide unit focused on the book Among the Hidden. It covers topics such as: point of view, propaganda, character traits, writing an autobiographical poem, having a BRAWL discussion (class dicsussion), doing a research project or essay, totalitarian government, and review questions at the end.
