ANY LESSON Math Mobiles projects

I have always been fascinated by other types of learning activities, be it math, ELA, science, art, music, and journalism. I just always figured that my students in middle school should understand that 'everything' goes together. They need to understand that we are educating the WHOLE child. So therefore I have always come up with various ways to teach my students. This activity goes a long ways in teaching students how all events are balanced – one historical event hangs on another. All things

I made this problem-solving assignment based on an actual phone call that a customer had with his cell phone provider. The customer and the company disagree about his bill. The company quoted him .002 cents per kilobyte, but they charged him as if his rate was .002 dollars per kilobyte. The phone company contends there is no difference between .002 dollars and .002 cents, while the customer is trying to get them to understand that they are. The actual phone call can easily be found on the web

This flip chart was designed to help teach the concept of rounding. This concept is difficult for most kids. This 32 page flip chart breaks rounding down from the simplest rounding to the nearest 10 to having to locate the place value and determine the rounded number. I have found that the technique used in this flip chart has helped my students better understand the concept of rounding. The last slide gives the students a chance to practice with you or independently.

Place value extends well beyond the thousands, millions, billions and even trillions. Although we may not see numbers beyond the trillions all that often, quantities this large do exist! This lesson teaches students the order of the period houses from thousandths to decillions. It also teaches students the reasoning behind the order, focusing on the prefix of each place value, for example, trillions begins with the prefix 'tri' which pertains to the number 3 (triangle, triple, triplets, etc.)
