I generated this strategy when I was younger and couldn't do fractions. I teach this to my students in middle school, high school, and college and 99% of them love it and ask "why haven't we been shown this before?" This strategy works with any fraction problem and works best with equations. Most students cannot solve an equation with fractions. Give a fraction equation to them as a starter and most won't be able to do it until you show them this strategy! It's awesome and you will be shock

Reviewing how to divide fractions helps students avoid later stumbling blocks in algebra. This mission is aligned to Common Core Statae Standards: 7.NS.A.2. The fun stuff: This mission frames dividing fractions as expanding a fraction by multiplying the numerator and denominator by a reciprocal. Much better than flip and multiply, because it sets students up well for rationalizing denominators later! A very direct exercise with some exciting nested fractions to close it out. Fun! ALGEBRA PP: Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides/DISTANCE LEARNING

This is a great lesson for students as they delve into the challenge of "Solving Equations with Variables on both Sides." * The power point begins with an example of how to move the variables to the left side of an equation. * It then progresses to an example of moving the variables to the right side of the equations. * With the lesson gradually bringing in more difficult problems, the students learn to combine like terms on the same side of the equation before moving variables either to

After struggling for years to get kids to relearn how to add fractions correctly, I came up with a "game" they could use to learn how to do it using M & M's. (Candy has its place in our educational system!) The main idea is to set up equations using M & M's: instead of writing factors like (x+3) or (2x -1), they use factors like "R" (for red), "G" for green, and so forth. The first step is to reduce each fraction as much as possible. (If all terms "cancel out," then a 1 remains.) Th
