Students will create an 11-page book explaining why the U.S. Constitution was created and the various parts within the document. On each page, students will include a title, summary, and an organizer or visual. I have included detailed student directions and websites for research. Vietnam War: The Draft - Who Stays, Who Goes?
Some of the best group discussions I have ever seen came out of this assignment, which asks students to "serve" on a Vietnam-era draft board to determine who goes and who stays from 10 short, realistic bios, and defend their decisions. Students get worked up and passionate! It really helps bring the tension and frustration of a draft (and allowing exceptions to the draft) to life.
