DNA Newspaper Project - 7th Grade Life Science
This is the main DNA assignment I do with my 7th grade science students. Part one of this assignment has pairs of students create a model of DNA out of licorice, gumdrops and DNA. Then the students get their picture taken holding their DNA models for Part two of the assignment. In Part two students write a newspaper article pretending that they have just discovered DNA, featuring their picture and describing their "discovery". Nervous System Activity Page and Notes
These engaging notes correspond with the BrainPop videos "Nervous System" and "Neurons". Students will learn about the nervous system and the neuron processes that carry messages through the body (NGSS MS-LS1-8). After completing the notes, students will pair up to complete the "Mission Impulseable" Activity, where they will gather and synthesize information that sensory receptors respond to stimuli by sending messages to the brain for immediate behavior or storage as memories.

Cell Organelle Want Ad - Life Science, 7th grade
This is one of the first projects in my cell unit. Students pick (or are assigned) one cell organelle from either a plant or animal cell. I differentiate for students of different abilities by giving harder organelles (like the rough or smooth ER) to higher achieving students and easier organelles (like the vacuole or cell wall) to lower achieving students. Students create a "Want Ad" for their organelle and come up with ways to describe it purpose without naming it in the Ad.
