Archimedes was a Greek scientist/mathematician who discovered that an object, when submerged in a fluid, experienced a buoyant force that is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. In other words, he got into a tub and it overflowed. The amount of water displaced from the tub was equal to the weight of his immersed body.
