Resistance to Reconstruction: Sharecropping, KKK, Jim Crow Laws

I found that students lacked a true understanding of the institutionalized racism and social/political/economic challenges African Americans faced in the 100 years between the end of slavery and the first breakthroughs of the Civil Rights Movement. To provide more context, I created this assignment explaining sharecropping, the KKK, Jim Crow Laws, Poll Taxes, Literacy Tests, and Grandfather Clauses. It is very informative and great for class discussion afterwards and linking to modern times.

U.S. Government Resources - Power Points, Guided Notes, HW, Tests, & Projects

UPDATE 8/1/2021 - I have converted the PowerPoints included in this bundle to google slides as well with all of the video included. You will get both with this package. This is a great deal of the materials that I use for my U.S. Government and U.S. Government Honors classes. This probably will not carry you for an entire school year, but it's close. Some of the things that I do in my class I do not have rights to (textbook worksheets, etc.) and I’m in no position to share. I also teach financi

Political Parties: Find out if your students are conservative or liberal!

Students can have very strong opinions on many of the topics that surround the news today (often their parents' opinions, but opinions all the same). But do they really know if they are truly conservative or liberal: democrat or republican? This activity explores all of their beliefs and thoughts on a number of world/national issues and begin to filter their political preferences to one side of the spectrum or the other. This IS NOT an exercise to pin students against students, but rather to

There are many ways you could use these worksheets but I suggest at the very least, as a part of your lesson, that you check out CGP Grey's youtube channel and show your students his segment on gerrymandering --> (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mky11UJb9A

Asking Questions and Critical Thinking - Forming Inquiry / Research Questions

Help your students learn how to identify and ask higher-order thinking inquiry questions in class (science as well as other subject areas) and in life in general because this type of deep thinking promotes a richer classroom environment, critical thinking skills, and lifelong learning! Getting students to think deeply about what they want to know and generating higher-order inquiry questions is a skill that often, in my experience, needs to be explicitly taught in order the help students from
