Cooperative Learning Strategy cards

These are cooperative learning strategies created by Kagan. I simply made a reference card to introduce to the students and post on your wall for future reference. The have a title of the strategy, a picture and description of the strategy at the bottom. You can print them as a full page of smaller to use as flash cards.

On Demand Writing Peer Conferences
This document allows student to use the Rally Coach Kagan structure to conduct peer conferences using each aspect of the on demand writing rubric.
Copy each set and gives cards to students. Place students into groups. One at a time a student reads a peer's writing and chooses a card to give comments about the particular part of the rubric. Research Paper in an Alternate Media
This year we wrote our research papers in a different form. We made a "dossier." Using Microsoft Publisher or a similar software, we wrote the same paper but it looked different. I found that by allowing them the use of graphics, design, illustration and color, I had better papers and a higher number of students turned in the paper.

My Favorite Teacher - Lesson plans and student slides
I use this essay prompt to familiarize my students with the informational essay structure. The unit is great as a starter because it doesn't require any research. There are lessons to teach and also a template for students to complete their work. The Writing Process Clipchart (Publisher)
I print these on card stock, laminate, and then attach them together with rings. This is the Publisher version that can be edited. I use numbered clothespins for my students to represent where they are at on the chart. The steps are: Pre-write, Draft, Authors Circle, Revise, Edit, Chief Edit, and Publish. Persuasive Strategies FRIES exercise
This half sheet exercise challenges students to find the persuasive strategies used in a persuasive paragraph (FRIES: Facts, Reasons, Illustrations, Examples, and Statistics) and underline them in different colors. Then, students are challenged to write their own persuasive paragraph using FRIES.
