The Day Before the State Writing Test--Fun Prep!
This is a smart notebook file with a fun song, a few address the prompt quickwrite activities, and a list of things students can ensure they do the night before the state writing test. I had them create a poster to hang on their fridge with the ideas.
My favorite slide is the prompt generating ideas slide. A list of possible prompts are given, and students will write down experiences from their lives that fit into those prompts to get ideas flowing.

Assessment Task Abraham Lincoln
Smart file which contains a performance assessment aligned with Common Core Standards for 6th grade. Students will read nonfiction, historical fiction, and watch a media clip to determine the significance of each genre and the impact upon the theme. Students will then create an essay to support their reasoning.

Election 2012 Whiteboard Lesson
The Presidential Election 2012 is a 2-4 day lesson about the election. Included are comparisons of candidates and political parties, campaign strategies, and jobs of the president. Resource information is provided at the end of the document in the event it is needed. Student research would be a valuable but not necessary component for this lesson. This document uses Notebook software.

Writer's Workshop Student Accountability
When working with students during Writer's Workshop, it can be hard to keep track of where they are at in the writing process. This SMART document allows students to move their name to the stage of writing process they are currently on. It helped me, as a teacher, to know which students needed a conference with me.
