Students will move and perform to the classic Jazz tune by Dave Brubeck. They learn the ostinato and clap and march to the ostinato in a fun circle dance and can also play along with the bass line. Essential and ELA questions are provided to connect to literacy.
A follow-up lesson has the students composing their own ostinati and performing for their peers. A Common Core classic!

16 beat rhythm notation FlipChart
This FlipChart is a great resource for quick rhythm writing with your class! Uncover each rhythm from under its box (great review!) and then drag each rhythm to sit on its beat bar above. Halloween Rhythm Builder (Active Inspire Software from Promethean)
This rhythm builder uses speech to guide students/classes to compose their own rhythms. There are 4 slides starting with quarter note and eighth note rhythms. Each slide add more notes.
