This slide deck guides you through one week of engaging, challenging activities to prepare for a whole class debate. Debates are student-run activities where they practice speaking, listening, close-reading, using vocabulary, analyzing topics deeply, and working in groups. They can be used in any subject! Have students choose an informational article and then use the graphic organizer below to help you plan your news story. Retell the article in your own words. Discussion questions book marks nonfiction
Do you have students get together to talk about a book, only to have them stare at each other or talk about anything but the book? These book marks will provide students with support to help them ask other people questions. We usually ask students to talk about fiction but they need to be discussing nonfiction to encourage each other to read nonfiction and deepening their knowledge of different topics. Enjoy!
