This handout and accompanying smart board lesson slides works for teaching counter argument AKA counter claim writing. I created it for an honors level 7th grade class, but it would work all the way up to grade 12. It contains two examples of counter argument paragraphs broken down into sections so students can understand how to write a strong counter claim paragraph. This lesson is original and works for any argumentative or persuasive writing, but I used it with expeditionary learning grade

COMMON CORE ~ How to Annotate and do a Close Reading of Text Instructions
These two pages give the steps for doing a close reading and the steps to annotating text. They are written specifically for the students, not as instructions to the teacher, so they would be beneficial to add to a notebook for regular reference.
I have also included an example of how to utilize a quote as evidence to answer a text dependent question and a full page example of how an annotated text might appear (of course they will all be different).
