In order to help them process their understanding, the students complete a Connect-Extend-Challenge visible thinking routine. This is a PPT that I made while teaching ESL to students in China. It's designed to give ESL students a better understanding of what English is and where is came from. I would usually present the first few slides and then students would take turns presenting slides to the class, practicing their English while they read the text.
