This is a great assignment I use with my students each year when discussing the expansion of American Industry! Students view several primary source excerpts regarding the rise and expansion of many industries including the railroad and coal. After reviewing the excerpts students will complete a graphic organizer examining the impact of each industry as well as create an evidence backed statement regarding what they felt had the largest impact on the growth of America.
