Limits Using Tables and Graphs

A mini-lesson covering how to find limits using tables and graphs. Have the students picture that they are going on a hike...your friend started without you because you were late but has agreed to turn around and meet up with you at a specified place. Relate this to approaching a limit, while also covering that regardless whether your meeting place actually exists (i.e. a hole), a limit refers to simply appraching a pt.

This lesson is part of an AP Calculus class. Integration by Substitution is described, using a structured approach to organize the students' work doing the u-substitution. A combination of Scientific Notebook and SMART Notebook is used to produce textbook quality mathematics, but minimal knowledge of those tools is needed. Screen Shades and Table Cell Shades are used liberally to focus students' attention and to lead them through the procedure, including both indefinite and definite integrals. F

An introduction to l'Hôpital's rule for AP Calculus AB. I recommend working out the examples ahead of time, though each page provides some hint as to the direction the problems will take. Feel free to let me know if you'd like to see more or less of something in the lesson! This lesson assumes students know how to take basic limits and derivatives using various shortcuts and rules (no epsilon-delta limits or definition of the derivative necessary).
