Probability/Compound Probability: Horse Racing
This activity is based off of Derby Race Horse odds which are calculated based on the number of people choosing to bet on a specific horse. It is not about the number of horses racing, it is about who people think will win! A horse with 30-1 odds means that out of 30 people, 1 person will choose that horse as their winner. Give each group of students 4 kings, 3 aces, 2 eights and 3 jacks for this experiment. This lab will help students understand experimental probability and includes a practice sheet. They will then use this experimental probability to predict events. Students will then compare experimental probability with theoretical probability.
