RAD writing Strategy RAP SONG
This is a RAD strategy rap song that I made up for our school to use schoolwide to help with answering short answers. RAD stands for RESTATE, ANSWER, and DETAILS. The song went viral and we even had Kindergarten singing it.

This is a song based on Donald Crews' Shortcut. It follows the sequence of the story line and builds suspense similar to the story. Other teachers have used this for multiple purposes in the reading and writing workshops such as for an extension lesson, to compare and contrast, to analyze how an author (or songwriter) builds suspense, for teaching sequence, for character analysis, and more. This song is a great way to introduce writer's workshop to young students. The lyrics are short and exact to help beginning writer's understand the basic concept of writer's workshop and to begin writing immediately.
