Lora Bird has been teaching for over 25 years in the Vancouver School District. Although her main passions are music, diversity and social responsibility she has taught every subject from K-9 at some point in her career. Her favorite assignments are Kindergarten and Primary Music.
Mrs. Bird believes education should be fun, fair and individualized to honor the gifts and meet the needs of her unique students.
Lora Bird was nominated in the category of Education Training and Development for the YWCA's Woman of Distinction Award.
Lora has earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of British Columbia where she completed her thesis on using music as a bridge over the troubled waters of discrimination in Education. She completed her teacher training in the Profession Development Program at Simon Fraser University as well as a Bachelor of General Studies with a major in Psychology and minor in French.
Lora facilitates teacher training and writes curriculum for abuse prevention. She also helped develop the Breaking The Silence anti-racism resource by Angela Brown.
