Our suggestion is make copies of these pages, and laminate them. Then allow students to use dry erase markers to write different consonants, digraphs, and blends as the initial sound and determine whether the word is a real word or nonsense word, and sort accordingly. For added fun, give the students a toy car and have them sound out the letters as they drive across them to practice blending sounds together!

This activity is a lot of fun for students and it gets them to practice their sight words (or letters)! I change the words throughout the year to go along with our LA curriculum or use words we've studied but still need practice spelling/reading them. This is great in a center or for Daily 5 Word Work. I use pieces of felt for the students to use as "quiet boards" for rolling their number cube. I've discovered that this works best for those students who get a little carried away rolling the cube
