In one box, students write a quotation from the text. In another box, they reword the quotation. Then they write the inference they can make, or the sub-text.

It Says - I Say - And So Chart
This chart supports students as they make inferences about the text.
In one column, students record what the text says explicitly about a topic, subject, or question. In the next column, they record what they already know or think about that same topic, subject or question. In the final column, they record an inference - by combining what they read and what they know.
